Tips to Find Travel Deals Online

As we mentioned before, there is not a single solution to find a real bargain when booking your vacations.

Regardless the site or sites you choose to search for your bookings follow these tips when planning your next holiday.

1. Book your flights as advanced as you can.
Airline fares increase when the time for departure is near the booking.

2. If you are looking for price, try to flight in a mid-week day: Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.

3. If your departure dates are flexible, the possibility to get better deals increase. Even more, some of the travel search engines, now include a “flexible dates” option, giving you the fares for a date range, so you can pick the best. Sometimes, special events in certain destinations will increase the price for a few days, so having this date range will allow you appreciate the price variation.

4. Avoid holidays. Although I have found great deal even in December, It is more difficult to find a deal during holidays, even more, most of the time, airlines increase prices or avoid publishing any deal during holiday season. If you want to travel during Christmas holidays, you will get better price as the Christmas day is closer to your travel date. If you like to take risks, last minute deals during Christmas are great, but they are not always published, it will depend on demand. Use the same concept to Thanksgiving and other heavily crowded holidays.

5. Use as many websites as possible to search for your travel information.

6. When booking a hotel, always see the pictures in the major sites and carefully review the location of the hotel.

7. Use as many sites as needed to book different parts of your holidays, but always compare with booking everything in the same site. Expedia and some others, now offer great discounts if you book flight and hotel in the same reservation, making more convenient to use a single company.

8. After you book a flight or a hotel, check into the airline and hotel sites directly and compare prices. Use only sites with good reputation and well known and check that they use SSL encryption when you pay online with a credit card.

9. When you receive your confirmation codes for your flight, hotel and car, mail or login directly to the hotel and/or airline to confirm that they got your reservation exactly as the one you purchased. This is the most important step to avoid any unpleasant surprises.

10. If you have the time and patience, when you finish, check again. I have found great deals in the second search. Try to keep a log of your research to avoid confusion.
